China Merchants Energy Shipping has placed an order at Dalian Shipbuilding Industry (DSIC) for the construction of a pair of crude oil tankers.

The two 115,000dwt tankers were independently developed by DSIC based on the demands of China Merchants Energy Shipping.

Starting from 2007, China Merchants Energy Shipping has ordered over 30 large-size vessels from DSIC, including the high-valued 300,000 tonne VLCCs and 175,000 cu m LNG carriers.

The newly-signed two tankers will provide much safer and efficient operation guarantee for crude oil transporation upon delivery, and could further optimize the companys tanker fleet structure, said China Merchants Energy Shipping.

Earlier this year, CMES announced plans to build and invest in up to 22 LNG carriers. The company will set up four joint venture single-ship companies with K Line and China Merchants Commerce Leasing for the construction of four 174,000 cu m LNG carriers for Malaysia LNG transportation projects.
