The two VLCCs, totaling in $166.3m, are scheduled for delivery in July and September of 2022 at the shipyard of DSIC. Fuel consumption of the VLCC pair is expected to be 5-7% lower than the VLCCs China Merchants Energy Shipping build during 2018 and 2019.
The vessels will be equipped with air lubrication system and the new generation of sail propulsion system self-developed by DSIC for the first time.
The new order is in addition order to the four VLCCs that China Merchants Energy Shipping signed with DSIC in December 2019.
China Merchants Energy Shipping had already booked thirty large size vessels at DSIC, including two 110,000tonnes-class product oil tankers, five 180,000tonnes-class bulk carriers and twenty-three VLCCs. Twenty-six vessels had been delivered and the other four are under construction
Currently, China Merchants Energy Shipping is the world’s largest VLCC owner, we expect to build more high quality and intelligent ship with CSSC, said Wang Hong, deputy general manager of China Merchants Group.
