China United Lines (CULines) has entered into a shipbuilding contract with CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding for the construction of up to four 1,900 teu containerships.

The newbuilding contract is made up of two firm vessels and another two options.

The vessels are the most updated 1,900 teu type of boxship build by Huangpu Wenchong, which will be in 172 metres length, 27.5 metres width and 14.6 metres depth.

It is the first-time cooperation between CULines and CSSC Huangpu Wenchong shipyard on the construction of new vessels, and a practical action of CULines to jointly provide better shipping service with CSSC for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

As a part of the company’s fleet expansion and upgrading plan, the vessels will be used to strengthen its Asia shipping services after delivery starting from August 2022.

Last month, CULines opened up its first direct service on the mainline Asia – Europe trade.
