Two Chinese shipbuilding companies, CSSC Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding and CSSC Jiangnan Shipyard, have inked newbuilding contracts with Evergreen for the construction of two 23,000 teu containerships at each yard.

It is the first significant order signed after the official establishment of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and was inked in Taipei.

The four 23,000 teu containerships are designed by Hudong-Zhonghua, and incorporate environment friendly, efficiency and energy saving solutions.

The company will work with Jiangnan Shipyard to ensure the vessels to be delivered on time, said Hudong-Zhonghua.

Upon the delivery of ships, they will be the largest in Evergreen's fleet and among the largest container ships in the world.

The other six 23,000 teu boxships will be built by South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries.
