The rig is the first of Gusto MSC’s CJ 80 design to be built, and will be the largest jack-up ever constructed, one-upping the jack-ups behind the letter of intent signed by the  UAE yard with Offshore Innovation Management in December last year.

Dubai Expo 2020 is designed to for harsh environments, specifically the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, with a maximum water depth of 175 m with a 25 m air gap.

“Today we have entered into the next stage of technology and design by building a green rig which take the oil industry to a new level. It is a demonstration of DDW capability to build world first mega projects as we demonstrated in previous projects such as ‘The Shell Prelude FLNG turret, Solan storage tank and DolWin beta’, and now building this global first and largest rig.” said Khamis Juma Buamim, Ccairman of Drydocks World & Maritime World.

DNV will class the 101 m by 110 m, 5500 sqm unit, which the designers claim will be use up to 30% less fuel due to use of latest fuel efficient technologies, which will make the rig tier 3 compliant with carbon dioxide and Nox emissions cut by up to 25%.
