Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding and Jiangnan Shipyard, the two subsidiaries of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), have inked shipbuilding contracts with Bank of Communications Financial Leasing for the construction of four mega-containerships.

The two shipyards will each build a pair of 24,000 teu containerships for Bank of Communications Financial Leasing.

All the four ships are independently designed by Hudong-Zhonghua and equipped with a hybrid scrubbers to meet the requirements of IMO 2020. The total carrying capacity of each the four vessels will reach 24,100 teu.

According to the shipyard the ship type adopts the world’s latest environmentally friendly, high-efficiency, energy-saving, safe and reliable designs. They are equipped with a unique small bulbous bow, large-diameter propeller and energy-saving ducts to lower energy consumption.

Hudong-Zhonghua has delivered over 50 containerships above 8,000 teu, including two 23,000 teu dual-fuel vessels for CMA CGM.
