China EximBank offers $185m loan to Bangladesh Shipping to build six ships

The Export-Import Bank of China has backed the construction of six new ships for Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) with a loan of $185m, reports said.

The newbuildings comprise of three bulk carriers and three oil tankers, local media reported.

State-owned BSC owns a fleet of eight vessels with five in operation. The shipowner seeks to renew its fleet as the average age of its fleet is over 30 years old.

Recently, China EximBank extended a loan of $312m to Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corp (CSSC), for the construction of three 18,000 teu containerships.
