The company inked two firm orders for 9,300 ceu methanol-fueled roro-vessels via its subsidiary at a total cost of $192m, plus options for another four 9,000 ceu methanol-fueled ro-ro-vessels totaling in $384m.

The first two vessels are scheduled for delivery before the first half of 2026 while the other four are expected to be delivered in 2026.

Driven by growing demands from China’s new energy vehicle exports and the changes in global automobile supply chain, Chinese owners have a broad prospect in ro-ro-vessel transportation. Ordering of new vessels will support the company to expand international ro-ro business and strengthen fleet capacity, said China Merchants Energy Shipping.

China Merchants Energy Shipping opened up a foreign trading ro-ro service last year to the Persian GulfSoutheast Asia and Red Sea regions, and reported a net profit of RMB87m attributable to ro-ro services.
