China shipbuilding new orders up over 200% in first half

Chinese shipbuilding output, newly received orders and orders on hand volume all increased in the first half of 2021.

During the first six months of 2021 Chinese shipbuilders received newbuilding order volume of 38.24m dwt, representing a substantial growth of 206.8% over the previous year.Nearly half these orders in tonnage terms were placed at yards belonging to the CSSC which received orders for 232 vessels totaling in 18.39m dwt in H1, surpassing its annual order target.

Meanwhile shipbuilding output was 20.92m dwt an increase of 19% year-on-year.

As the end of June, the orderbook on hand was 86.6m dwt, up 21.8% comparing with the volume ended 2020, including 32.44m cgt of oceangoing vessels.
