Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers exercises four newbuild options

Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers has exercised its options at Dalian Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry to build four multi-purpose pulp carriers.

In December 2018, Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers inked contracts for five plus four 62,000 tonnes multi-purpose pulp carriers newbuilding contract with Dalian Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry.

According to the contract, the shipowner needed to confirm the options before the date of 7 March. The nine ships will be delivered during 2019 and 2021. The price for each of the ships is RMB232.6m.

Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers is actively upgrading its fleet structure. In the past two years, the company had intensified its pulp marketing efforts, established close ties with major pulp manufacturers around the world and won several COA contracts for large-scale pulp transportation.

The company had previously ordered two plus one 62,000 tonnes multi-purpose pulp carriers at Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry (Dalian) in 2017, which are due for delivery in 2019.
