Set for delivery to Svitzer UK in October 2015, the tugs are designed for push-pull operations as well as escorting and towing vessels, and fire-fighting in the Thames and around Felixstowe.

Each vessel features two Caterpillar engines driving  2,800 mm controllable-pitch propellers, amounting to an 80 ton bollard pull.

“Being able to change pitch and power during operation allows smooth and superior maneuverability of these big [escorted] vessels,” said Damen sales manager Martijn Smit. “Damen is happy to be able to provide Svitzer with the standardised fit-for-purpose tugboats and fast turnaround they are looking for. Over the past couple of years, Svitzer UK has increased its Damen tugboat orders. We have a long history of fruitful collaboration.”

The order represents repeat business between Damen and Svitzer, which ordered its first ASD 3212 tug last year.
