NYSE-listed Eneti, previously Scorpio Bulkers, has announced a binding agreement for the construction of and additional wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV).

The company had ordered last May the first Wind Turbine Installation Vessel WTIV South Korea-based builder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME).

Eneti had an option for the construction of one more WTIV. The $326m- vessel will be delivered early in the second quarter of 2025 with a NG-16000X design by GustoMSC and a 2,600-tonne leg encircling crane to be supplied by the Dutch crane maker Huisman.

The vessel will be capable of installing up to 20 megawatt turbines at depths of up to 65 metres of water, and it can be adapted to operate on the alternate fuels of liquefied natural gas (LNG) or ammonia.

Eneti has pivoted its business from dry bulk shipping to the offshore wind sector in the US reflecting a shift towards clean energy.
