Following the new ship construction order of four bulk carriers, Hengli Heavy Industry is rapidly reviving its shipbuilding business and cooperating with South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for a large-size containership project.

Hengli Shipyard and SHI jointly held the steel cutting ceremony for 15,000 teu containerships ordered by shipping line Evergreen at Hengli’s yard. The two shipbuilders inked shipbuilding cooperation agreement last month to develop Hengli as a world-class shipyard.

“The cooperation demonstrates Hengli’s facility can meet the first-class ship construction requirements and we will make great efforts to develop a leading green vessel construction and high-end equipment manufacture base,” said Hengli.

In 2021, Evergreen and Samsung entered into agreement to build twenty 15,000 teu containerships.

Major shipyards are full with large containership and LNG carrier orders through to 2027.

Hengli took over the former yard bankrupt STX Dalian shipyard last year and fully restarted operations in February this year.
