China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) has started the second phase of construction of Changxing shipbuilding base, which will be a new yard for Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding.

The new site for Hudong-Zhonghua is located at the South side of Changxing island, and covers 431.8 hectares.

An investment of CNY18bn ($2.8bn) is expected to be injected into the project as a whole, which will be divided into two construction phases. The first phase project is scheduled to be completed in 2023, and will have a construction capacity for six specialised vessels per year.

According to Hudong-Zhonghua, the new site in Changxing island is to be further developed as a large size shipbuilding yard equipped with more advanced and intelligent technologies.

Pudong construction site of Hudong-Zhonghua and Hudong Heavy Machinery are planning to relocate starting from 2023.

CSSC Changxing island base, aims to be developed as one of the world’s largest shipbuilding bases, started initial construction project in 2003. Jiangnan Shipyard, another major shipbuilder under CSSC, had been relocated to the island in 2008.
