KHI axes president as merger talks end

Japan-based Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) has axed its president Satoshi Hasegawa as it ended merger talks with Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co.

Hasegawa had been involved in talks to merge with Mitsui Engineering, but disagreements over the potential synergies from the merger resulted in collapse of the plan.

At a board meeting on Thursday, KHI appointed Shigeru Murayama, head of the company's aerospace business, as the new president.
