New Dayang Shipbuilding, the shipbuilding unit of SUMEC, has secured its first shipbuilding order for four product tankers from an undisclosed owner. It is a significant move for New Dayang Shipbuilding, which mainly focused on bulk carrier and containership construction previously.

“We have seized the opportunity in the growing oil and chemical tanker market, and established collaboration with the world-famous shipowner to build the four tankers,” said SUMEC.

“Signing of the tankers will further optimize the shipyard’s product structure and effectively spread operational risks,” SUMEC added.

The new methanol-ready tankers will feature intelligent systems and a high level of environmental performance and scheduled for delivery between 2027 and 2028.

In 2024, SUMEC Marine further expanded its footprint and with new clients mainly from Japan, Taiwan, Middle East and North Africa.
