Singapore-headquartered Petredec said it had ordered two 11,000 cu m LPG carriers from Sasaki Shipbuilding and two from Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation. The vessel deliveries are spread throughout 2015.
These vessels are fitted with Man B&W’s ME main engines and the hull form has been optimised for the vessel’s intended trading areas, which Petredec said allowed for a significant increase in cargo carrying capacity.
“The extra cargo capacity and superior speed and consumption, compared with the existing (large Pressurized) fleet, gives Petredec a huge competitive advantage,” said Giles Fearn, chief executive of Petredec.
The newbuildings will increase Petredec’s fleet of 11,000 cu m LPG vessels to six.
Earlier this year the company ordered three firm plus three options for 84,000 cu m VLGC newbuildings at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI).
