CSSC Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding has entered into shipbuilding contract with European owner CMB for the construction of two ammonia-ready bulk carriers.

The two 210,000 dwt bulk carriers will be 300 metres length and 25.2 metres draught, and be equipped with two 3,000 cu m ammonia fuel storage tanks, meeting the requirements of IMO Tier III. The vessel would be capable zero carbon sailing for the whole voyage using green ammonia.

It is the world’s first order for the construction of capesize bulk carrier with an ammonia-ready design.

Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding, formerly know as Qingdao Beihai Heavy Industry, has become a secondary company of CSSC group earlier this month, which was managed by CSSC’s unit Wuchang Shipbuilding before.
