Scorpio Bulkers has ordered three capesize bulk carriers valued at a total of around $162m for construction at a subsidiary facility of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME).

The newbuildings will be built at Daewoo Mangalia Heavy Industries in Romania, Scorpio Bulkers announced on Monday.

The first pair of 180,000 dwt bulker is scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2015 while the remaining one unit will be completed in the first quarter of 2016.

Earlier this month, Scorpio Bulkers announced that it is buying four 64,000 dwt ultramaxes and six 82,000 dwt kamsarmaxes from Chinese yards Chengxi Shipyard and Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard, at a total purchase price of around $278m.

With all these recent newbuilding deals, Scorpio Bulkers now has 39 bulkers on order predominantly in Asian yards.
