Due for delivery in 2015, the 20 m craft will be named after the company's late chairman and ceo Idar Ulstein.

"This is an extraordinarily generous gesture by Ulstein and is one of the largest ever donations made to our organisation," said Rikke Lind, Norwegian Sea Rescue secretary general. "Idar Ulstein was a passionate supporter of Norwegian Sea Rescue and this donation, honouring his life, will potentially help save the lives of many people experiencing difficulties off the Norwegian coast."

With priority placed on reaction time rather than bollard pull, the RS Idar Ulstein features a top speed of 38 knots, via twin engines. however, the vessel does feature a 9t bollard pull, which will cover the majority of rescue sietations, where larger vessels have lost engine power.
