Vard wins order for a wind energy construction vessel
Fincantieri’s Vard has inked a contract with Wind Energy Construction for a specialised Energy Construction Vessel, with an option for a second.
Wind Energy Construction is part owned by Norwegian Offshore AS founders, and the owners of Norwegian Offshore have previously ordered five Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs) with Vard.
The new vessel is to be built at Vard’s yard in Vung Tau, Vietnam with delivery scheduled for Q2 2027.
The vessel able to accommodate 120 people is based on the VARD 3 11 design, tailor-made for the offshore wind and subsea market, including inspection, maintenance and repair of pipes, and construction and installation of infrastructure above and below sea level.
It will also be fitted with Electric Controlled Motion Compensated (ECMC) gangway with integrated 3D-compensated crane capabilities.
Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri, commented: “This new order further confirms our technological and industrial leadership in the offshore wind sector, which is growing strongly and offers solid prospects.
“We will keep focusing on innovation and energy transition as key pillars of our commitment, as per Industrial Plan".
