The deal includes two firm contracts for dual-fuel 6,500 units of car equivalent vessels and four options.

The new generation vessels, designed by Danish Knud E. Hansen, will be 200 meters long and 37 meters wide, equipped with type C LNG tanks. The vessels will be constructed at CIMC Raffles’s Longkou plant and will fly Swedish Flag.

“Ro-ro vessels are one of our major products, we invest an advanced laser-hybrid welding production line at our Longkou plant, which had already been successfully applied at roro vessel construction,” said Wang Jianzhong, CEO of CIMC Raffles.

Wallenius SOL, a joint venture of Wallenius Lines, placed an order at CIMC Raffles in 2019 for the construction of four LNG power ro-ro vessels.

LNG is increasingly becoming the fuel of choice in the car carrier and containership sectors when it comes to newbuilding orders.
