The body has been found of worker who died in an accident at Keppel Shipyard in Singapore on Monday.

A Keppel Shipyard spokesperson confirmed the that the body had been found of a sub-contractor worker who fell into the sea when part of a concrete pier at the yard collapsed on Monday.

Local news outlet Channel News Asia quoted a Singapore Ministry of Manpower (MOM) spokesperson that part of concrete pier that a crane was standing on collapsed resulting in the crane falling onto a vessel berthed in the yard.

A 38-year-old Bangladeshi worker employed by Kumarann Marine, who was on the pier, fell into the sea and his body was recovered today.

“We would like to express our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and are rendering our full assistance to them. Keppel Shipyard values the safety and life of every worker and we deeply regret this tragic incident,” the Keppel Shipyard spokesperson said.

“We are working closely with the authorities to conduct thorough investigations and review.”

Four other workers were reported to have suffered minor injuries in the accident and to be in a stable condition.

MOM is reported to be investigating the cause of the accident and has stopped all works at the pier.
