The new block train service links the Malaysian town Padang Besar on the Thai border with Penang and into CMA CGM’s regional shipping network in Asia under the CNC brand. CMA CGM has partnered, Infinity Logistics and Transport Ventures Limited (Infinity) for the rail link on which the French line will have up to 100 dedicated containers per week.
The new service was flagged off last week, along with the official opening of a 7,500 teu monthly capacity container yard at Penang Port.
CMA CGM’s CNC Line has two services calling at Penang Port link to major Asian ports including Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Qingdao, and Busan.
Yang Amat Berhormat Chow Kon Yew, Chief Minister of Penang said: “Congratulations to both CMA CGM and Infinity on this great partnership, it will certainly further reinforce Penang as a dynamic import and export gateway of Malaysia’s northern region – the Silicon Valley of the East. In line with the Penang2030 plan, I also believe that this partnership will help strengthen Penang Port as a prominent logistics hub, subsequently becoming a preferred destination of investments in Asean."
