Eyesea’s pollution tracking application will benefit from the partnership with Mapbox, a technology company which provides location data and mapping technology. The mobile app is designed to allow seafarers and volunteers to provide data and photographs of ocean debris.
The data is then processed by an artificial intelligence to identify where the pollution is and what it is, information which is passed on to Eyesea partners for the planning and execution of clean-up operations.
Mapbox’s technology and maps will enhance Eyesea's app with high-quality, accurate and up-to-date mapping data, the companies said, which will make it easier for users to locate and document ocean pollution.
Mapbox technology is also used to make better visualisations of Eyesea data and create custom map styles to display the data.
