pH3 Capital Ventures announced the launch of its Beyond Blue Accelerator startup support programme supported by Maritime UK.

With strategic partners include Evelyn Partners, Fieldfisher, Green Angel Syndicate, ITP Energised and Shoreham Port, Beyond Blue will initially work with 12 startups to offer support and investment to develop the businesses.

pH3 said Beyond Blue will be the first funded accelerator programme in the UK and that selected startups will receive funding from day one of the process along with 12 months’ support, mentoring and training. Applications are now open for the programme.

Beyond Blue Accelerator co-founder, Louisa Cilenti comments, “We want to build on the growing innovation ecosystem for the UK maritime industry and catalyse investment for a new generation of blue green entrepreneurs leading the way on the green conversion and digitalisation of our ocean-related enterprises.”

At the end of the accelerator programme, Beyond Blue aims to raise seed funding for the successful business within each cohort, funding the best performers at Series A rounds.

The longer term vision of Beyond Blue is to create an ecosystem of startups applying green solutions, innovative materials and circular technologies to generate benefits to ports, inland waterways and oceans.

“We are especially excited about the growth of emerging marine renewable technologies and the blue bioeconomy. The missing enabler for driving this growth is the availability of scale-up capital from early-stage investors who understand the rapidly changing market context for maritime. Our accelerator fills this gap,” said Cilenti.

Tom Willis, CEO, at Shoreham Port, adds, “Shoreham Port is delighted to be part of the Beyond Blue Accelerator and to have this true propellor role in the future of the blue green economy. This goes beyond closing the funding gap for startups in the industry: the accelerator will drive a more inclusive culture and bring new solutions to our local communities as we commit further to sustainability measures that support the twin challenges of climate change and ocean regeneration.”
