In all, Shift announced that 17 vessels will use its Energy Storage System, including Vallianz and ZEEboat's fully eletric tugboats and some large scale hybrid vessels for customers yet to be announced. The vessels are set to enter operation in 2023 and 2024, the company said.
Shift said that compared to a conventional tug, operation of an electric tug will cut at least 150 tonnes of NOx and 2,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
Brent Perry, CEO and founder of Shift, said: “Shift powered tugboats are all equipped with built in fire detection and fire prevention systems. Safety and industry leading cost efficiency are at the core of delivering these projects.
“Time is of the essence. We have to be tenacious and work with visionary leaders to create a zero emissions industry. We have to act now and the 17 tugboats that will be using our ESS systems are a step in the right direction,” said Perry.
Shift also announced its involvement in the first all-electric battery swapping vessel for the port of Singapore with SeaTech Solutions and Yinson GreenTech. Named Hydromover, the vessel will use Shift’s pay-as-you-go PwrSwäp technology.
Shift continues to expand its operations with an office under construction in Singapore to add to its presence in the US, UK and the Netherlands.
