Wearing a jacket and tie has never seemed suited to Singapore’s tropical heat but has become increasingly common as business wear for events.

The need to wear suit jacket at conferences and similar events was in part driven air-conditioning in hotel and convention centre function rooms which is often set at what could be described as “winter” conditions.

Sustainability is driving a more sensible approach to indoor temperatures and the air-conditioning at official Singapore Maritime Week events has been set at 25 degrees C for energy saving.

As a result attendees are advised that jacket and tie are not required, indeed they could prove to be bit uncomfortably warm. The Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) also said that the use of single-use materials is being minimised and marketing collaterals are published digitally.
