Bourbon to deploy Opsealog solutions across entire fleet after 25-vessel trialBourbon to deploy Opsealog solutions across entire fleet after 25-vessel trial
After saving an average of 45-50 tonnes of CO2 per vessel per month in a trial of Opsealog, Bourbon is extending the solution across its 104-vessel fleet.
Bourbon said it will use Opsealog’s fleet monitoring and optimisation system on its entire Marine & Logistics fleet to increase ship efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
A six-month pilot on 25 of Bourbon’s Offshore Supply Vessels (OSVs) brought average monthly emissions savings of between 45 and 50 tonns of CO2 per vessel. Hugo Prigent, Account Manager at Opsealog told Seatrade Maritime News the company is confident that similar levels of emissions savings will be achieved across the wider fleet, in line with results it has achieved with other clients in the offshore support sector.
Rollout of the technology will be complete by the end of August, said Opsealog, on OSVs, Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs) and Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessels (AHTS) operating in West Africa, Asia, the Gulf of Mexico and beyond.
Opsealog said it uses a wide range of data sources to monitor vessel activities and all operational aspects, including AIS, electronic fuel consumption monitoring systems, and digitalised logbooks. “This enables us to optimise engine running hours and speed in various situations, resulting in fuel and emissions savings,” said Prigent.
The companies’ partnership will enable centralised fleet monitoring with data integrated into Opsealog’s Marinsights platform to provide insights to optimise vessel operating profiles, cutting fuel consumption and GHG emissions.
Frédéric Siohan, Standards & Innovation Director at Bourbon Marine & Logistics, said: “Our collaboration with Opsealog is marking a new milestone in the digitalisation of our fleet that was initiated about 10 years ago with the design of highly efficient vessels fitted with Diesel Electric propulsion. Through enhanced real-time monitoring of operations and fuel consumption, the partnership will equip our teams with the right insights, founded in data, to improve our fleet’s day-to-day performance and reduce its carbon emissions.
“In the longer term, having this comprehensive overview of our fleet and potential improvements will enable us to establish new benchmarks for operational excellence and lead the way in sustainable practices. This also offers our customers practical solutions to progress their own decarbonisation journeys,” Mr. Siohan added.
Hugo Prigent, Account Manager at Opsealog, said: “Our pilot showed how data can not only paint an accurate picture of each vessel’s fuel consumption and carbon emissions, but also unlock tangible actions to immediately improve their performance.”
