Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation signs on four new partners

The new partners – bp, Chevron, the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) – were signed on during Singapore Maritime Week. The four partners bring with them a combined SGD25m ($18.4m) through cash and in-kind contributions.

With bp and Chevron joining as partners the centre they will bring the experience of energy producers to the table in the quest to decarbonise shipping operations.

Carol Howle, bp’s executive vice president for trading & shipping, said: “A net zero future for the maritime sector demands industry collaboration – and GCMD is bringing to the forefront the conversations that matter most. As part of GCMD, we look forward to working and advocating with key industry players to further progress solutions at the pace and scale needed to help this carbon intensive sector transition."

It was a sentiment echoed by Mark Ross, President of Chevron Shipping Company, who said: “This is a truly complex task that requires industry-wide collaboration, innovation, and well-designed policy. GCMD brings together knowledge and expertise to help meet this challenge. We look forward to working with our fellow partners to progress our shared lower carbon ambitions.”

Partner ICS will bring with the leverage of its strong membership base in shipping, while BCG brings insight into macro trends in decarbonisation.
