Shell to retrofit LNG carriers with Silverstream air lubrication system
Shell International Trading and Shipping Company is to retrofit a number of its LNG carriers with its air lubrication system.
Silverstream said it had signed a framework agreement with Shell to retrofit its air lubrication system on an undisclosed number of vessels in the oil major’s LNG carrier fleet.
The agreement covers three years and is designed to expedite the installation of the Silverstream System on vessels in Shell ’s fleet. The move follows vessel performance studies and sea trials between Silverstream and Shell dating back to 2014.
Noah Silberschmidt, ceo of Silverstream Technologies, added: “Today’s announcement marks a significant next step for Silverstream. Shell has been a longstanding and important partner for our organisation, and strengthening this relationship will help to drive clean technology uptake within a crucial market segment.”
In-operation trials have proven that the Silverstream System reduces fuel consumption and associated emissions by between 5-10%, depending on vessel profile.
