Aker and Crowley bag $325m take-out for product tanker quartet

A joint venture between Aker Philadelphia Shipyard and Crowley has secured $325m in financing for four of its product tankers.

The jv, which was announced in 2013, holds contracts totalling $500m for the for the 50,000 dwt tankers. The ships are of a Hyundai Mipo Dockyards design that allows for the future adoption of LNG as a fuel, and are expected to be delivered in 2015 and 2016.

The company also holds options for four further product tankers.

Construction financing for the first four ships, hulls 21-24, was finalised in March 2013 with Cat Financial to the tune of $120m.
