The two secondhand vessels were built in 2008 and 2010 while the eight newbuildings will be delivered between 2015 and 2018 from Japanese yards Fukuoka Shipbuilding and Shitanoe Shipbuilding.

“Stream Tankers has a fleet of quality vessels and newbuildings and BW is pleased to be acquiring this fleet. With this purchase, we will be able to strengthen our service offering in the chemical tanker segment,” said Andreas Sohmen-Pao, ceo of BW Group.

Stream Tankers is jointly owned by Utkilen AS, EGD Shipholding AS and BSCO AS.

The 10 eco-friendly chemical tankers will be managed by BW commercially through the Womar pool system.

The latest purchase follows closely the acquisition of 10 MR product tankers together with private equity firm Pacific Alliance Group (PAG) in a deal announced on Monday.

BW Pacific, the joint venture of BW and PAG, will buy the 10 MR product tankers from Elandra, a company associated with Vitol Energy (Bermuda) Ltd.
