Chemical tanker explosion kills one, injures four

An explosion aboard a chemical tanker off Turkey on Monday has left one dead and four people injured, local news report said.

The report said that 10 crew members were evacuated from the 6,300-dwt Tibil yesterday as the tanker was sailing along the Marmara coast near Istanbul.

The explosion occurred after a fire broke out during the afternoon on the tanker, reports said.

It added that Turkish coast guards have dispatched six rescue boats and two towing boats to the accident scene.

The tanker is expected to be transferred to Tuzla Shipyard.
