Clean Marine wins exhaust scrubber contract for tanker pair
Oslo based exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS) manufacturer Clean Marine has secured two orders for its scrubber systems from Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI).

The systems will be fitted to a pair of DP2 shuttle tankers being built by SHI for petroleum tanker owner AET. The EGCS are due to be fitted in 2013 and 2014 ahead of the vessels' deliveries in late 2014 and early 2015 ready for long term charters in the Norwegian sector of the North and Barents seas for Statoil.
The system being fitted to the 120,000 dwt twin-skeg tankers is the culmination of seven years and $20m of research into exhaust cleaning by Clean Marine.
The system will scrub SOx and particulate matter from the exhaust of two main engines, five auxiliary engines and three boilers to bring their emissions within line with IMO rules.
There are 18 months left until the until the 1 January 2015 drops in sulphur limits for marine fuels, from 4.5% to 3.5% globally and 1% to 01.% in ECAs.
