The 174,000cu m LNG carrier pair is going to be built at the yard from China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and will be chartered to PetroChina International under long-term contract.

The vessels will be managed by two newly-established single-ship companies in Hong Kong upon delivery.

In 2020 and 2021, Cosco Shipping and PetroChina’s units engaged in energy transportation had ordered two batches of three 174,000 cu m LNG carriers each from CSSC Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding. The first three vessels had already been delivered.

This investment in newbuilds will lift the total large-size LNG carrier number for the joint project of COSCO Shipping Energy Transportation and PetroChina International at CSSC’s yard to eight.
