Scorpio Tankers is selling 2008-built LR2 product tanker STI Spirit to an unnamed buyer for $30.2m. The sale is expected to close in April.

The sale marks further progress of Scorpio Tankers’ fleet-renewal strategy, following the announcement of a massive $800m order for seven newbuilds in early December, as well as the $44m January sale of two LR1 product tankers to Eletson. However, the 2008-built tanker is the youngest tanker to be sold by the company so far in 2014.
Scorpio’s fleet now consists of 21 tankers with an average age of 3.9 years, including one remaining LR2 and four LR1s as well as one Handymax tanker, 14 MR tankers, and one post-Panamax tanker. Scorpio also charters-in 30 product tankers, including nine LR2, five LR1, seven MR and nine Handymax tankers.
The firm also has a further 63 newbuilds on order, 43 of which are slated for delivery over the course of this year. These include 30 MR, 12 LR2, and 14 Handymax ice class-1A product tankers and seven VLCCs.
