NYK in long term charters with EnBW for LNG newbuilds
NYK is ordering four LNG carrier newbuildings for charter to German energy company EnBW.
The Japanese shipowner is building four 174,000 cu m LNG carriers at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries for delivery in 2027.
The new vessels will be for long term charter to EnBW Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg. Details of the charter and newbuilding prices were not revealed.
The LNG carriers will be dual-fuel and equipped with shaft generators and air lubrication systems. The vessels will fly the French flag.
“We are very pleased to have signed this new long-term charter contract with EnBW. This conclusion is of great significance for further promoting the NYK Group's ESG management,” said Yasuyuki Inami, Executive Officer, NYK Energy Division.
“We will continue to provide EnBW with reliable LNG transportation services under our strong partnership, contributing to energy transitions around the world.”
German energy companies have turned to LNG shipments after the country was hard by the end of piped natural gas supply from Russia as a result of the was with Ukraine.
