The 86,700 cu m, LPG dual-fuel vessel is to be built at KHI’s sakaide Works shipyard with delivery scheduled for 2025.
The vessel will be equipped with separate cargo tanks designed to carry LPG and ammonia at the same time to provide flexibility in trading.
NYK said that using LPG as fuel would result in 95% less sulphur oxide (SOx) and 20% less CO2 emissions. The vessel is also fitted with a shaft generator to generate electricity while the engine is in use. It also has notations from ClassNK as ammonia ready, enabling conversion at a later date to use ammonia as a fuel.
The newbuilding will be compliant with IMO’s Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase 3 regulations.
