The stainless steel chemical tankers are scheduled for delivery between late 2026 and 2029 and will be used to replace older tonnage.
The latest vessels ordered will be sister ships to six ordered by Stolt Tankers from Wuhu Shipyard in November 2023, with 30 cargo tanks, a range of energy saving technologies and room for retrofit to battery and methanol propulsion. The vessels on order at Wuhu Shipyard are due for delivery between 2026 and 2028.
Udo Lange, Stolt-Nielsen Limited CEO, said: “This order reflects our strategy to maintain the scale of our core 38,000 deadweight tonne fleet by adding newbuildings not otherwise available in the second-hand market in a capital efficient way through our NST joint venture.”
Hironobu Watanabe, NYK Line managing executive officer and chief executive of the company’s Energy Division, added: “I am pleased to have reached this newbuilding order with Stolt Tankers, our long-time partner for over 30 years. By replacing the vessels with ones that are more fuel-efficient, we can provide stable transportation services to our customers while promoting an energy transition.”
Stolt Tankers operates a fleet of more than 150 sophisticated parcel tankers servicing for bulk-liquid chemicals, edible oils, acids and clean petroleum products.
