Odfjell cuts hit 85 office staff, European officers

Odfjell has announced a reorganisation that will see up to 85 jobs lost at is Bergen office, and a drop in the number of European captains on its ships.

Of the 85 jobs to be cut, 32 have already been emptied through attrition and early retirement. 

"There will also be organisational changes at our offices abroad. Relocation of administrative tasks and reduction of Northwest European officers on our ships are also elements of this reorganisation," the company stated in a press release.

The reorganisation is expect to save $100m a year from 2016.

Odfjell president and ceo Jan Hammer stepped down in December over differing views with the board on the company's future. The company reported a $9m loss in the third quarter 2014.
