Brazilian state oil and gas firm Petrobras says that it will not hire tankers that have operated in Venezuela during 2019, the period in which the US imposed sanctions on Caracas, reported Reuters.

"We have recently reiterated to our suppliers that we will not accept offers from vessels that have operated in Venezuela during the period of sanctions."

The Brazilian state-owned company explained that they will avoid hiring vessels that do not comply with the regulations of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Treasury Department.

Washington also included in its "blacklist" the vessels that transport from Venezuela. Early June, OFAC announced sanctions against four shipping companies for supporting Caracas in the fuel trade.

A US official revealed that the US country is considering imposing sanctions on dozens of foreign oil tankers for trading with Venezuela. This could affect about 25 tankers with the capacity to transport 2m barrels of oil and 17 smaller vessels.
