The deal was agreed at the Korea-Russia Business Dialogue meeting in Seoul, attended by Russian president Vladimir Putin and South Korean president Park Geun-hye.

The agreement will involve the development of a set of common rules for icebreakers and ice-classed vessels, as well as technical co-operation for LNG and offshore vessels operating in the Arctic. The agreement will also include regular meetings and technical seminars, and “exchange of technical personnel”.

“We are keen to continue to develop Russia’s shipbuilding sector and also to widen our own skill and knowledge base,” said RS ceo Pavel Shikov. “The signing of this new MoU will allow us to learn from our colleagues in Korea and for us to work together to the advantage of the international shipping industry.”

“Not only will this assist with the ongoing development of the international shipping industry, but it will also make a further contribution to the knowledge base of both countries through mutual technical information interchange,” said KR ceo Chon Young-kee.
