US 'strongly condemns' Greek tanker bombing in Libya

The bombing, which killed two including one Greek national and injured a further two, was intended to stop the cargo getting to generators in the rebel-held port town of Derna, according to local reports.

“The ongoing escalation of violence in Libya against civilian commercial interests further widens a conflict that is fundamentally political and threatens the integrity, unity, neutrality, and independence of Libya’s critical institutions, including the National Oil Company,” said Department of State spokesperson Jen Psaki.

“The United States remains committed to working with the international community to help the Libyan people establish an inclusive system of government that addresses their core needs, preserves and protects key Libyan institutions, establishes stability and security, and addresses the ongoing threats to Libya’s democratic transition.”
