IACS moving towards cyber security requirement

The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) is moving towards a minimum class requirement for cyber security.

Cyber security was one of the key areas of focus for IACS at its 80th council session in London last week.

The council welcomed the “near completion” of the consolidation of 12 recommendations for cyber-security published last year.

“IACS’ Council is committed to seeing the new Recommendation published in early 2020, so that feedback regarding its practical implementation and effectiveness can be gained as quickly as possible,” IACS said.

This could then form the basis for a minimum class requirement: “Further, and based on the experience gained, the IACS Council confirmed its long-term intention to use the Recommendation as a basis for Unified Requirement.”
