Mitsui has committed to bring in its ships from September. Apart from the 6,000-teu ships MOL will run, Mitsui would also bring in other major lines such as NYK, Evergreen, Hanjin and APL, local reports said.

This is aimed at helping Indonesia gain global market and strengthen its position as a maritime country. The first terminal is projected to have a total capacity of 1.5m teu.

Pelindo II also plans to open a tender for the operation of the second and third container terminals in November this year so that development can begin in 2014.
