The terminal services iron ore shipments from Baffinland’s iron ore mine in the Arctic Circle.

Svitzer said it initially expects a shipping season from mid-July to mid-October and will deploy two ice-class tugs.

“We are enthusiastic to service Baffinland at Milne Inlet as it requires us to draw on our vast ice management experience both in Canada and from our global portfolio in locations such as Sakhalin, Russia and Svalbard, Norway,” said Marinus Lorwa, coo of Svitzer Americas.

The mine began operations in September last and iron is trucked over 100 km to Milne Inlet where the cargo waits until the shipping season starts.
