Liquid bulk and container volume increases more than balanced a decline in dry bulk throughput at the Port of Rotterdam in Q1, with total volumes rising 7.2%.

The Port of Rotterdam Authority has reported a 4.9% drop in profits to EUR215m for 2014, despite an increase in revenue for the year.

   

Throughput at the Port of Rotterdam, Europe's largest port, rose 1% to 445m tonnes in 2014, and the port expects similar growth in 2015.

The largest vessel in the world, heavy lift and pipelayer Pieter Schelte, has arrived in Rotterdam to undergo final assembly in the inner lake of Maasvlakte 2.  

Shell has contracted STX Offshore & Shipbuilding to build a new LNG bunkering vessel to operate from the Port of Rotterdam.

APM Terminals Maasvlakte II has begun landside operations in Rotterdam, capable of operating 24 hours a day.

Indonesian state-owned port operator Pelindo I has signed an agreement with Port of Rotterdam to provide consultancy services on service management at the new Kuala Tanjung Port in North Sumatra, local reports said.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), Antwerp Port Authority, Port of Rotterdam and Port of Zeebrugge have come together to discuss on harmonising LNG bunkering standards and procedures.
