Jakarta: The Indonesian port of Belawan in North Sumatra is to receive a $130 m loan from the Islamic Development Bank for expansion into a hub port, reports the Asia Pulse. A large percentage of loan will be used to fund the expansion of the port's container terminal unit including land reclamation and quay construction.
The port authorities hope that the expansion would put Belawan in a better position to compete with other ports in this region such as Singapore. [16/07/08]
