Colombo: The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) is planning to launch ship fuel services at a new port in southern Hambantota in May, Priyath Wickrama,chairman of SLPA said.
A fuel farm with 80,000 metric tonnes capacity is under construction at the new port, which should be put into operation by April 2011.
"We're hoping to start bunkering by May this year," Wickrama said, "We're going to buy four self-propelled barges to start this business."
The new port in southern Hambantota was opened in November 2010 with good location to the main East-West trade route, which is planned to be developed as transportation hub in the region. [07/01/11]
